PylePro PDC22 DI demo and review PylePro PDC22 DI demo and review

The Pyle Pro PDC22 is an unpowered Dual Direct DI box. It converts unbalanced signals to balanced signals andbalanced to unbalanced. It also features a parallel out in order to loop a signal back. The DI also has a -0dB, -20dB and -40dB which allows you to connect higher powered connection to it to send via balanced out like amp speaker outs etc. It also features a ground lift. It is of full metal construction and in my tests noiseless. It does exactly what it is requested to do.

The Pyle Pro PDC 21 is a signle DI box.

For the £13 odd it retails for in the UK this is a very usefull piece of kit for the studio and live situations.

In a previous blog we talked about how to get buzz and humms out of the signal when conencting to a USB powered audio interface and using amp sims like Amplitube, BIAS etc. In that blog I suggested using an amp out so that the signal passes through a well earthed device before it hits the audio interface.

The downside to solving the problem this way is that you colour the sound. If you use a DI the hum should be gone thanks to the balanced out and you get an uncoloured signal into your audio interface and thus also into the amp sim or amp modeller.

I will be using this to make some amp sim demos which include amplitube, BIAS, Guitar Rig and some free ones like Poulin and the Ignite amps.

Pyle Pro Description from their website:
Pyle PDC22 is a necessity if you are looking for the higest quality of sound, with low distortion, noise, and eliminate ground loops. A DI unit, DI box, Direct Box, Direct Input, Direct Injection or simply DI is an electronic device that connects a high impedance, line level, unbalanced output signal to a low impedance mic level balanced input, usually via XLR connector. DIs are frequently used to connect an electric guitar or electric bass to a mixing console's microphone input. The DI performs level matching, balancing, and either active buffering or passive impedance bridging to minimise noise, distortion, and ground loops. DIs do not perform impedance matching. Pyle has been in business for over 35 years, and their manufacturing experience and expertise is easy to see - and hear.
