Interview with Crucial Audio, electronics designers, repairs and effects pedal builders

Crucial Audio is an electronics repair service that also builds some great guitar effects pedals with good old valves / vacuum tubes. I spent talking to them over skype for quite a while before requesting this interview because I wanted to try and work with them to get their effects pedals into the UK. Crucial Audio llc is located in Santa Rosa, California.

What got you started making gear?
I have had a deep love for electronics and music since my childhood.

What gear do you make?
We currently manufacture Vacuum Tube Analog Delays, and are cooking up some more products for release.

Where do you operate from?
Crucial Audio llc currently operates out of a 3000 sq' facility in Santa Rosa, California.

What about making gear do you like the most?
What I like the most about making gear is creating enjoyable audio instruments that improve the sonic landscape.

Is this a hobby or full time operation?
Crucial Audio is a full time operation. We also provide electronic service.

Who inspires you/who do you look up to musically, IE what gear do you admire?
Leo Fender & Rupert Neve, to name a few.

What pisses you off/what do you like; about the boutique audio gear building industry?
I like a lot of the stomp box artwork and creative chassis.

Are you still in a band or play music and do you use your own gear?
I play music everyday at the shop, with Crucial Audio gear and others. I am not currently in a band, but do get in occasional jam session.
