BomesElectric Pedals PortlandWritten by Krach Werke
Overdrives, delays and more great guitar pedals from a builder in Portland USA.
"BomesElectric came into existence upon the sale of my first Bomes Amp in 2008. From there I later moved into the effects pedal design and manufacturing business with the vision of them having all of the tone, features and capabilities that I needed out of my pedals both on the road and in the studio. Also, in the new designs I have implemented soft pushbutton switches for quieter use and microcontrollers to enable even more flexibility and functionality at your feet without any compromise to the sought after tone. Every pedal is designed, hand built and tested by me and is ready to go right out of the box." - Bomes

A quick introduction please, name, company, location:
Hey this is Jason. My friends call me Bomes. I'm the owner, designer and manufacturer of BomesElectric pedals here in Portland Oregon.
What got you started making gear?
I had been tinkering with electronics with my dad ever since I was young. I've been building, modding, and repairing amps and pedals for myself for the last 15 years out of necessity. I was on the road for years and did a lot of studio work and needed to know my gear inside and out. I started making and modding pedals so that I could achieve the tone and function that I wanted out of them. Once people started hearing my amps and pedals at shows they began requesting me to make some. So I did and it took off from there.
What gear do you make?
I just released the Sir-Gains-A-Lot Overdrive/High-Gain pedal. I have the Ape Delay which is inspired by my old Space-Echo. I wanted the vibe of the Space-Echo, but smaller and with way more control. I also have the BAT which is an Overdrive/Boost. Soon to come is the Boostier which is a clean Boost with a tone and boost knob.
Where do you operate from?
I design, manufacture and test all of my pedals in Portland, Oregon, USA
What about making gear do you like the most?
My favorite part of making pedals is the development and design process. I get to sonically shape them and hear the designs develop into the pedals that I always desired in the past.
Is this a hobby or full time operation?
This is a full time operation.
Who inspires you/who do you look up to musically, IE what gear do you admire?
Musically, I am basically inspired by Pink Floyd, Hendrix, RadioHead and The Beatles. The gear that I have always admired are those pieces that have come from inspiration and a desire to make something different, new or solve a problem that we all can benefit from.
What pisses you off/what do you like; about the boutique audio gear building industry?
What I like is that there is a lot of original gear being built out there. Stuff that is fun and musically inspiring and people are making a life out of it.
What bothers me is that there is a lot of the same thing out there only under a different business name. I'm annoyed that I've needed to start covering all of my circuits with goop so that they don't get stolen or cloned.
Are you still in a band or play music and do you use your own gear?
Yes I play and record around town primarily with my own amps and pedals. I had a rule for myself from the beginning; I will only sell pedals that I am inspired to play and have on my own pedal board. I figure that if I am into and am inspired by the tone I get out of my gear, others will be too.
