The DigiTech Grunge Pedal The DigiTech Grunge Pedal

The DigiTech Grunge pedal is a high gain affordable distortion pedal. The sounds is full and good and but the gain seems a bit higher than I would expect for a 'grunge' tone.

The built quality is great and it has the same battery input as the Behringer pedals. This is a real bugbear for me as it is a stupid design. Please see the video and the Behringer HM300 demo vid for more info.

My feelings are this pedal is probably better as a pedal for metal tones especially with the 'grunge' dial all the way up (I am assuming the grunge dial is the gain). Although the 'grunge' dial does significanly alter the tone by seemingly adding a bit of fizz at the top end or possibly like a mid to high end boost. In general though it does not seem as if the dial adds more gain. The pedal starts with high amounts of gain so is not suited for crunchy blues or rock tones at all.

For the price this pedal is great. If someone wanted to play metal I would suggest this one as a good entry level rather than for example a Boss type metal pedal (metal zone or other). The gain is high yet still defined. The bottom end is still audible and tight enough. The high and low control work well and a variety of tones can be achieved by clever use of the high, low and grunge dials.

I don't think I would swop any of my pedals for this one or buy one knowing what I know now. Yet it is a very nice pedal and defo worth looking at.
